Subject: Multi-Factor Authentication Deadline – May 18th, 2021
From: Office of the CIO <ocio@mines.edu>

Dear Oredigger,

In order to protect your personal data and the data entrusted to Mines by others, Mines now requires Multifactor Authentication (MFA) in order to log in to certain Mines applications, including Canvas.  While this requirement may be new to Mines, it is already required for most personal business transactions such as with banks, for federally regulated Personally Identifiable Information (PII) such as with social security numbers, as well as for interactions with government research funding agencies.

ITS recognizes that problems logging in at any stage are disruptive, so we have set up special procedures to help you resolve problems quickly.  If you need access to a system quickly and cannot verify your identity over the phone, we can temporarily over-ride the need for MFA.

Whenever you need help with MFA, call 303-384-2345, or open a service request ticket through the Mines’ Help Center at https://helpcenter.mines.edu.  Please indicate that you have a login issue, then select MFA from the drop-down menu when requesting help.  Or, submit a ticket using  https://helpcenter.mines.edu/TDClient/1946/Portal/Requests/TicketRequests/NewForm?ID=02K9EM56Xqg_.

If you need to request a hardware token (FOB), please submit a ticket using https://helpcenter.mines.edu/TDClient/1946/Portal/Requests/TicketRequests/NewForm?ID=oCUrx1a6qD0_.

If you need to do an initial MFA install, please visit https://it.mines.edu/mfa for instructions.

Thank you for protecting the Mines Community.
