Notice of Cybersecurity Incident Impacting National Student Clearinghouse

Colorado School of Mines has been notified by the National Student Clearinghouse (NSC) that they were impacted by a global cyberattack. The attack targeted the MOVEit software, owned by Progress Software, a secure file transfer software for the handling of sensitive information utilized by many companies around the world.

The NSC provides educational reporting and research services to many higher education institutions, including Mines. Among those services is the transfer of student personal data. MOVEit is used by NSC for that file transfer, and universities across the nation have been impacted.

What is currently known is the cyberattack involved data for some students in the Mines community. Mines will continue to monitor the situation and provide additional information as it becomes available.

Please know that this breach was not local to the Colorado School of Mines servers or services. Anyone in the Mines community whose personal data was impacted by the breach will be notified directly.
