Why should I download MFA right now?

The majority of Americans either re-use old passwords or use common passwords. These accounts and passwords are more susceptible to being compromised. There is a multiplicity of sensitive information at the Colorado of Mines, ranging from

  • Social Security numbers
  • Government and personal research
  • Banking information
  • Home addresses

One compromised account can affect the security of the entire campus. If an attacker is able to figure out someone’s password, MFA would prevent the attacker from accessing the account. Once the attacker enters the password, MFA will prompt for a one-time, six-digit code. Since the attacker cannot enter the code, they would be locked out of the account and the Mines Security Operations Center will be notified of the compromised account.
