Banner 9 Upgrade

Banner (Internet-Native Banner aka INB and Self-Service Banner) is getting a makeover!

ITS began planning for the upgrade to Banner 9 in August 2016. The project officially started with Phase I, from March 2017 to June 2018, and focused on the upgrade of Banner 8 forms (aka Internet-Native Banner or INB) to Banner Administrative Applications or Banner Admin for short. The transition to Banner 9 Self-Service Applications, Phase II of the project, kicked off in November 2019 with ITS working with administrative groups to release new features throughout 2020 and 2021.

Why are we upgrading?

The primary driver for the Banner 9 upgrade is the end of support for Banner 8 INB. Banner 8 INB runs on Oracle Forms and Reports 11gR2, which reached its end of extended support on December 31, 2018. Ellucian, the vendor which creates and supports Banner, no longer provides software releases or patches for Banner 8 INB. Banner 8 Self-Service does not depend upon Oracle Forms, and continues to be supported.

Banner 9’s new user interface brings a modern look and feel, as well as improved search capabilities and navigation. Key improvements include:

  1. Single Sign-On (using MultiPass credentials)
  2. No need to run Java applet on browser
  3. AppNav (Application Navigator) welcome page offers a “google like” search functionality throughout Banner Admin
  4. Mobile and tablet friendly
  5. Support for modern browsers (e.g., Chrome, Firefox, and Safari)

UPGRADE STATUS

Phase I: March 2017 – June 2018

  • Transition to new Banner Administrative Applications
    • General, Finance, Financial Aid, Human Resources, and Payroll – March 2018
    • Accounts Receivable and Student – June 2018
  • Banner 8 Forms (INB) Shutdown – May 2020

Phase II: November 2019 –

Launch new Banner 9 Self-Service Applications

  • Accounts Receivable – March 2021
  • Action Item Processing – March 2021
  • Employee – November 2020
  • Faculty and Advisor – March 2021
  • Finance – January 2021
  • Financial Aid – March 2021
  • General – November 2020
