Q: What is Banner?

A: Banner is the ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system used at Mines for many of the tasks the university needs to perform on a daily basis. From student registration, grades, and transcripts, department budgets, employee salary and payroll, to financial aid processing and human resources, many administrative areas on campus rely on Banner.

Q: Is there training for Banner Admin?

A: Banner Admin is a one-to-one replacement for Banner 8 forms – the names of the pages, data fields and basic functionality are the same as Banner 8 so there is little to no formal training required. Banner 9 resources are available in Skillsoft at Banner Training and Resources, including a Banner 9 general navigation video, keyboard shortcuts guide, how-to videos, and training materials for Finance, BDM and Procurement. You must enroll in the Banner 9 Skillsoft course prior to accessing these resources.  Additional videos are being developed and will be uploaded into Skillsoft as they become available.

Q: How do I login to Banner Admin?

A: To access Banner Admin, log in to Trailhead with your Multipass credentials and then click on Banner Admin icon under the Go Bar. With the Single Sign-On (SSO) integration now available for Banner Admin, it’s that simple! Alternatively, the Banner 9 direct login link is https://appnav.mines.edu/applicationNavigator/seamless.

Q: If I enter data in Banner 8, when will it be available in Banner 9?

A: Banner 8 and Banner 9 currently run simultaneously, two versions of the same application connected to the same database. If data is entered in Banner 8, it will be immediately viewable in Banner 9, and vise-versa. All that’s changed is the look and the navigation of the application. The same core functionality is the same, and none of the data behind it has been moved or altered. Essentially, Banner 8 and Banner 9 are two different straws in the same glass of water.

Q: Which browsers can I use with Banner 9?

A: All modern versions of browsers are supported, however Chrome and Firefox are recommended. Internet Explorer is not supported.

Q: Keyboard shortcuts I used to use no longer work. What are the keyboard shortcuts for Banner 9?

A: The Banner 9: Keyboard Shortcut’s Guide is located in SkillSoft under Banner 9 Training Resources.

Q: Which password do I use to get into Banner 9?

A: Banner 9 is accessed through trailhead; so you use your Multipass password.

Q: I’m using Internet Explorer and some features are not available.

A: The recommended browser for Banner 9 is Chrome. Internet Explorer is not recommended.

Q: I am having to scroll to view what used to be all on one page in Banner 8. Is there anything I can do to get more information on one page?

A: Yes, under Tools in the right corner are the “Page Layout” options of Expanded and Compact. Choose compact to fit more information on one Banner page.

Q: Why won’t a Banner page display, why are page fields not displaying properly or why do I see the error “Invalid Form Version”?

Q: I was working in Banner and all of the sudden my session ended without warning?

Please verify that your Luminis time out is set to 720 minutes:

On the Luminis landing page on the right side under “Session Timeout” click on My Account.
On the last line verify the session timeout is set to 720. If it is not 720, change it to 720.

Banner 9 has a 4 hour time limit. After 4 hours your session will end. There are activities in Banner that will extend the time between time outs, however, it is best to plan your work around the 4 hour time limit.
