A Guide to Mines Computing Account Changes

In the past, members of the Mines community were forced to keep track of a number of different computer accounts, passwords, and something called an “EKey” (a unique code used to create new accounts and reset passwords). This has changed.

Starting 27 March 2015, the EKey is no longer used at Mines and a new online “Identity and Access Management” system (IAM or IDM for short) has taken its place. Computer accounts previously referred to as “ADIT,” or “Trailhead,” or “MyMail,” or “MultiPass” are all now part of a new, more-convenient master account, referred to by the single blanket term, “MultiPass.”

IF YOU ACTIVATED YOUR MINES COMPUTING ACCOUNTS BEFORE 27 MARCH 2015

There is nothing to do immediately. All your old accounts and passwords still work as they did before. However, there are new resources available for changing your passwords, recovering forgotten passwords, and more.

To change your ADIT, Trailhead, and Linux environment passwords to a single MultiPass password, visit the Identity Self Service site.

For hints and tips on successfully changing your password please see the Change Your Mines MultiPass Password web page.

IF YOU ARE A NEW STUDENT, FACULTY OR STAFF MEMBER NOW ACTIVATING YOUR MINES ACCOUNT

Please visit the Mines MultiPass Account Claim site.

IN THE NEW SYSTEM:

  • Logins are simplified but more powerful. Over time, we will configure more Mines computer systems to use MultiPass credentials.
  • Users can set password-recovery challenge questions and reset forgotten passwords themselves.
  • Students/MyMail users now log into MyMail via the web with their MultiPass credentials. And use a separate IMAP/POP password to access MyMail if using an email application on a computer/tablet/smartphone.
  • Passwords are more secure.
